SunPower Corporation is a U.S.-based solar energy company founded in 1985, known for providing residential photovoltaic systems, battery storage, and energy services. Originally a manufacturer of high-efficiency solar panels, the company transitioned over time toward a residential-focused business model, spinning off its manufacturing arm into Maxeon Solar Technologies in 2020 and divesting its commercial and industrial segments to focus on installation, services, and energy solutions. In August 2024, SunPower filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following financial challenges including declining demand, high interest rates, operational restructuring, and accounting issues. As part of the restructuring, key assets—including its dealer network, new homes division, and brand—were sold to Complete Solaria. The original corporate entity has since been winding down and managing liquidation proceedings. Following the acquisition, Complete Solaria rebranded itself as SunPower in 2025, continuing operations under the same name but as a different corporate entity. Today, the SunPower brand represents a restructured business focused on residential solar and energy services, distinct from the legacy company that entered bankruptcy.
